Our Story

About Urban Sketchers
Raipur

An open and welcoming community of artists who gather every Sunday to sketch the city — its streets, temples, bazaars, lakes, and people.

Where it began

It started with one pen,
one city, one sunday.

Urban Sketchers Raipur began in 2022 with three people, Sayali, Shreya and Roshni Sharma, a shared concern, and a simple question — where do amateur artists in the city go to create together?

What started as a small sketch meetup at Buddha Talab slowly grew into one of Chhattisgarh's first consistent urban sketching communities. Built on dedication, curiosity and the spirit of showing up every Sunday, the community has now completed 178+ sketching episodes across the city.

Over the years, we've documented the city’s changing landscapes, forgotten corners, heritage spaces, and neighbourhood stories — many of which no longer exist today except in sketches and memories.

What we believe in

Our Principles

Open to All

Our meetups are open to everyone. Art and community should be accessible to all.

Radically Inclusive

We welcome every skill level, every medium, every age, and every background. If you can hold a pen, you belong here.

Rooted in Place

We draw on location, in public, in front of the subject. The city is our studio and our subject simultaneously.

Unbroken Rhythm

We show up every Sunday — through monsoons, festivals, and blazing summers. The consistency is the point.

No Gatekeeping

Sketching is a practice, not a talent. There is no "good enough" to join us. We learn by showing up and drawing.

Share Your Work

Every sketch is a record of a moment in the city. We encourage sharing and documenting — with credit and care.

The best way to understand us is to show up once. After that, you'll keep coming back. once. After that, you'll keep coming back.
